How do I use the Search feature?
A: You can search by either City, City and State, or Zip Code within a given number of miles. Please also read the note below.
I can't find a specific Detachment, but I know it's in my State, Zip Code area, City, etc.?
A: The information for each Detachment, Department or Division is the based on information in the National Headquarters database or provided by that Detachment, Department or Division's assigned Web Sergeant. If no Web Sergeant has been assigned the information will probably not be recent. Also note that the base information is derived from the Report of Officer Installation, submitted to National Headquarters so if no recent report is submitted or the report is incomplete, the information will be missing from the National database and from that Division, Department or Detachment web page. We are aware that there are many "incomplete" Department and Detachment pages. If the zip code for your Detachment meeting location was not on your Report of Officer Installation, the search will automatically go to the Detachment mailing address zip code. If that is missing, the League Locator will be unable to find the Detachment until the Detachment, Department or Division Web Sergeant corrects the web page. Each Division, Department and Detachment will have a Web Sergeant who will be able to fix these mistakes. Once they are corrected, the search feature will find those entities. We have included a "Browse" feature for entities you cannot find via the Search. In most cases, this will lead you to the entity you are trying to find..
How do I edit my Division, Department or Detachment Web Page?
A: EVERY DIVISION VICE-COMMANDANT AND DEPARTMENT AND DETACHMENT COMMANDANT SHOULD APPOINT A MEMBER WHO HAS INTERNET ACCESS AND COMPUTER EXPERIENCE AS THEIR "WEB SERGEANT".
ALL COMMANDANTS RECEIVE A PACKAGE WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO ASSIGN A WEB SERGEANT, IN THE MAIL, ON A REGULAR BASIS.
ALL NEW DETACHMENTS RECEIVE THE SAME INSTRUCTIONS WHEN THEIR CHARTER INFORMATION IS SENT OUT.
If you have spoken to your Commandant and are absolutely positive, he/she does not have the instructions, ONLY the Commandant may request one. The name, address and email address of the Commandant requesting the instructions MUST match what is on record at National Headquarters, via the latest Officer Installation Form. If needed, send a recent Officer Installation Report to National Headquarters and allow 5 business days, for the information to be input, before making the request for instructions.
ALL DIVISIONS, DEPARTMENTS AND DETACHMENTS SHOULD ASSIGN A WEB SERGEANT THEN PASS A COPY OF THE INSTUCTIONS TO THAT WEB SERGEANT SO THAT HE/SHE CAN MAKE CORRECTIONS, CHANGES AND ADDITIONS TO THEIR OWN WEB PAGE LOCATED ON THE NATIONAL WEBSITE.
ONLY THE ASSIGNED WEB SERGEANT CAN MAKE CHANGES TO THAT DIVISION, DEPARTMENT OR DETACHMENT WEB PAGE!
Neither National Headquarters nor the National Webmaster will make changes to a Detachment, Department or Division Web Page! That responsibility must lie with that Web Sergeant. In the event a Detachment, Department or Division does not have anyone who can handle that assignment, it is suggested you contact your Commandant to request help from the Department Web Sergeant. Only the person assigned by the Commandant will be able to edit the web page. Please do not write to National Headquarters or the National Webmaster to explain that you are the Editor of your web page if you have not been explicitly assigned. For the security of your page, only the person who is chosen by the Commandant will be assigned the rights to edit their web page. If you are interested in being the Division, Detachment or Department Web Sergeant, discuss this with your Commandant. Keep in mind that you should have experience with computers and the Internet.
Our Division, Department or Detachment has it's own Website. Do we need to update our page here?
A: YES! This is a great way for you to be found, and if your information is not up to date, you probably won't show up in a search, Also, note that you can add a link to your own website on your web page at National Headquarters which is extremely valuable to bringing traffic to your own page because the National Headquarters Website receives over 3.5 million hits per month.
Remember: Your own site's Webmaster is different from the Web Sergeant responsible for your page at the National Headquarters Website. Although the same person can have both responsibilities, in order to edit the page here, that person will still need to be assigned by the Commandant and follow the instructions provided to him/her by their Commandant.
How do change to a different Web Sergeant?
A: Changing Web Sergeants is the same process as assigning a new Web Sergeant. Once the new Web Sergeant is registered, via the process outlined in the Web Sergeant Instructions, the old Web Sergeant is automatically removed.
What happened to the changes we made on our old Web Page?
A: That was over 7 years ago now. When the prior Webmaster shut down the old web site, none of that information was handed over.

What are the new features?
A: The new League Locator surpasses the previous locator system by providing:
1) The ability to view a map and get directions to a detachment meeting place.
2) The ability to add up to three pictures of recent events.
3) The ability to add a Detachment/Department/Division logo or picture to your web page.
4) There are now pages for Divisions, Departments and Detachments.
5) The ability to search for a Detachment by Zip Code within a chosen number of miles, State, or City or browse for a Division, Department or Detachment.
6) The ability to add, in your own words, a description of your Division, Department or Detachment.
7) The ability to add an upcoming event and information about that event.
8) Many, many other great features that make it simple for both the user and the Web Sergeant to use.
Information and Searches:
The Web Sergeant for each page will be able to correct any bad or missing information on your Web Page. Information that is bad or missing may effect searches. As mentioned above, please try the "Browse" feature for entities you cannot find. If you are aware of old or wrong information on your Detachment, Department or Division web page, please contact your Detachment, Department or Division Web Sergeant. If your Commandant has not assigned a Web Sergeant, please be sure to explain to him/her the importance of doing this so that contact information is up to date and prospective members are able to find a Detachment in their area.
A Note on Bugs and Support:
Please understand this is program was custom designed specifically for the Marine Corps League. This work took many months of development and testing and we are fairly certain we have worked out the bugs. Before reporting a bug, please be sure itís really a bug. If it is, please be friendly and understanding when reporting it. Many months of work went into developing this project, but we realize we are not perfect.
